Polar Cape Business Analyst Jens Koch-Nommensen

Our teammate Jens has been with us for almost a year and a half. He is a dedicated Business Analyst currently consulting for Swedish Customs. His experience in IT ranges from payroll, HR and recruitment systems, through public transport data, contract management, and customs systems. He is a passionate paraglider, and we love having him on our team!

Read our full conversation below.

1. What’s your favourite thing about Polar Cape? Is there anything in particular that made you want to work here?

By far it is the most intimate and nicest atmosphere I’ve come across in a company. Management is very flat and approachable. It’s always a joy to meet people at the office, both colleagues and manager.

2. Tell us more about being an IT Consultant. What does it mean to you personally?

Being flexible in what the customer needs from you and your role. The role of Business Analyst spans a wide range of tasks and responsibilities in different organizations. Being T-shaped and having the ability to adapt is key. At the same time having a broad experience from different projects and industries helps getting onboard and quickly.

3. How has your role formed and evolved over the years?

This is my first job as a consultant and Swedish Customs is my first assignment. In IT I started out in support, then moved on to become a Delivery Manager before eventually sliding into product development as Business Analyst and Product Owner.

4. Do you have a unique problem-solving process that really makes an impact for our clients?

Curiosity and willingness to learn the domain and understand the needs of the end user. That really helps in understanding the problem in the first place, putting yourself in their shoes and motivates you to help them towards a solution.

5. And what is your main driver to get the job done?

I enjoy seeing results. That is always what I’m looking forward to and what motivates me. Seeing the end result being delivered and making an impact to the end user. That is what I feel is my main accountability in anything I do professionally.

6. How do you stay updated on trends and news in your domain?

I am a YouTube junkie in general and some of the channels I follow are about agile and software development, like:

(Yes, Jens was kind enough to share with us where he gets his wisdom from! Thank you Jens!)

7. What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I’ve been paragliding since 2011 and love doing it. Most of my time in the air is, however, abroad when on vacation. Last summer I participated in my first competition which happens to have been in Kruševo, not far from Skopje and Bitola where many of my company colleagues live.
