Inside Polar Cape: The Story of Gabriel Wärmby

Polar Cape Consultant Gabriel Wärmby

We welcome Gabriel Wärmby as one of our newest IT consultants, specialising in the Product Domain. He joined us in September, bringing along years of experience in many different roles from a product’s lifecycle. He comes from a musical background, and to him building a product gives you the same satisfaction as when writing a song.

What made you choose Polar Cape?

I chose Polar Cape because it aligned with my career aspirations at the moment, which was entering into consultancy. I spoke to several companies but felt that Polar Cape stood out due to its great reputation, history, and, most importantly, the people working here. I immediately felt it was a perfect match. Additionally, the stunning Stockholm office at St. Eriksplan captured my heart!

Having been here for 5 weeks now, what’s your favourite thing about the company?

So far, it’s undoubtedly been the colleagues, the positive atmosphere, and the supportive environment. It’s also an incredible feeling to collaborate with some of the industry’s finest, especially within the product domain!

Tell us more about wanting to be an IT Consultant. How has your role evolved over the years?

I’ve been an entrepreneur earlier in my career, so I know what it means and what it takes to run your own company with all its challenges. I founded a small tech startup in early 2005 and later moved on to founding a web agency, so I’ve worn many “hats” – from pitching projects and running sales, to actually coding and designing. Then, I transitioned into more fixed roles and decided that it’s in the product domain where I belong. I just love building great products that solve problems for my customers.

Do you have a unique problem-solving process when working with clients?

My approach to problem-solving revolves around gaining a comprehensive understanding of the context before proposing solutions. I ensure that we see how a specific issue fits into the larger picture and whether we’re approaching it from the right angle. Understanding our clients’ market and business is paramount, as it helps us find innovative ways to give them a competitive edge. Building relationships and trust is my starting point, as influence stems from trust.

How do you make sure you’ve made an impact for a client?

No matter the project’s size, I always make sure to see the bigger picture and understand how our work helps improve our clients’ products. I want to leave knowing that I’ve made a real difference and brought value to our clients! I have a strong preference for evidence and hard data, as it allows me to showcase the impact I’ve had. I value the importance of a strong team spirit where you celebrate wins, have fun, and get to know each other on a more personal level.

Any part of your experience you feel is relevant to share with our network?

Maybe my strong creative side and the strong connection I have with music and the industry. I’m a musician, started playing the guitar as a kid and later moved on to songwriting and producing. That was actually what brought me to Stockholm! The startup I mentioned earlier was also related to the music industry. I’ve always been quite “hands-on.” Seeing a problem and coming up with solutions in the form of new product ideas is something I’ve continuously done throughout my career!

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I play padel and tennis a lot! I just joined a tennis league, so I get new matches every week, it’s great fun when you get to compete! As I mentioned earlier, music is still a big part of my life. I’m currently working on some EDM/Tropical house tracks with people all over the world. Oh, and I also love adventures, whether it’s hiking in the mountains, surfing, kayaking, or traveling to new places. 😎

Anything you’d like to share with our audience, future Polar Capers, or potential clients?

I’m always eager to engage in discussions about new business ideas and opportunities. With a robust network within both the startup sector and the music industry, I bring valuable connections and insights to the table. Feel free to reach out if you’d like to explore exciting possibilities together!
