Why self motivation differs from motivating others

Author: Lena Padukova, IT Consultant

I am soon sailing off to continue sailing around the world, this time it will be to New Zealand. Joining a team I have never met before, to work tightly together for several weeks, heading for the same goal, although for different reasons. This is not as extreme as a blue-water race, but not too far off. I hope to do some racing one day too; extreme endurance is something that fascinates me a lot.

Endurance is tightly linked with self-motivation, which is an interesting subject for research and self-education. I gather insights from expedition members and professional athletes, as well as fascinating stories from people who have reached exceptionally far – all to find out what motivates them, and to apply the theories to myself, as well as share the knowledge through lectures and coaching sessions. At the end of the day, there are just a few very simple mechanisms that make the difference between continuing through the toughest times and giving up. These mechanisms are however individual, this is why self-motivation differs so much from motivating others.

As the next season’s projects are closing in, I hope you will be able to do a good job of motivating yourself and the people around you, and continue towards your most audacious goals.

I hope to see you on the Eureka session in October, see the link below for tickets.
